The Washington Grain Train started in 1994 and works with short line railways and BNSF within Washington to transport grain to deep-water ports for exporting grain to the Pacific Rim markets. While the freight cars are overseen by Washington State Department of Transportation, they have different reporting marks depending on which line they originate from. Columbia Basin Railroad (CBRW) runs roughly 27 cars in the grain train and interchange them with BNSF to reach Washington’s ports.
